Jefferson 58, Boylan 56
ROCKFORD — The Jefferson J-Hawks rallied from 11 points down in the third quarter to beat Boylan, 58-56, on Friday at Jefferson.
Jack Fulling scored all 13 of his points in the first half to power the Titans to a 32-22 lead at halftime.
The J-Hawks rallied in the third quarter behind George Williams, who scored six of his 10 points in the third, and LaJuan Morris, who scored six of his nine in the third.
Latrelle Graham kept the run going in the fourth with seven of his 15 points. Boylan stayed close behind Johnny Close. He scored a game-high 22 points, including hitting three fourth-quarter 3-pointers.
Boylan had a shot to tie with 2.5 seconds left, but the Titans missed a layup on a lob play as time expired.
Jefferson improves to 3-1 in the NIC-10 and 6-2 overall. Boylan drops to 2-2 and 4-4.
Harlem 52, Hononegah 50
A hotly-contested fourth quarter between Harlem and Hononegah ended with the Huskies prevailing by just two points. Seven 3-pointers and big nights from David Williams (15 points) and Bryson Thomas (12 points) were crucial for the Huskies. Jarrett Strate-Lutzlow (14 points) was the top scorer for the Indians in defeat.
East 82, Belvidere North 55
East ended its first week as a ranked team on a high note with a win over Belvidere North. Top scorer Sincere Parker had 15 points for the E-Rabs. Junior center John Carlson had 20 points for North in the loss.
Freeport 51, Belvidere 43
Freeport’s 22-point second quarter earned the Pretzels a win over Belvidere. Deron Lacy, Kijaun Burns and Deven Stewart combined for 34 points to lead the Pretzels. Zach Tobler scored 14 points for the Bucs in the loss.
Dixon 73, Winnebago 31
Dixon held Winnebago to three single-digit quarters and had two of their own that yielded over 20 points. Senior Gabe Sohn led the Dukes in scoring with 18 points that included three 3-pointers. Casey Nsamba had 10 points for Winnebago.
Polo 67, Pecatonica 44
Three 20-point quarters powered Polo to a win over Pecatonica. Justin Young poured in 22 points including 10 field goals to carry the Marcos. Griffin Mulcahy’s 15 points were tops for the Indians.
East Dubuque 47, River Ridge 38
Belvidere North 69, East 36
Natalie Horgan (19 points) and Madison Diercks (16 points) carried the scoring load as Belvidere North beat East handily. Halee Bergstrom and Kabrea Jamerson combined for 26 points for East.
Freeport 53, Belvidere 34
Freeport dominated in the first and fourth quarters and secured a 19-point win over Belvidere. Riley Klecker (15 points), Tone Lacy (10 points) and Jordin Macon (10 points) provided the scoring for the Pretzels. Alexis Keating scored nine points for Belvidere.
Lutheran 59, Harvard 35
Rockford Lutheran held Harvard to two single-digit quarters in its victory. The Crusaders saw big nights from Lauren Spangler (20 points) and Alyssa Guse (12 points).
Galena 58, Orangeville 38
Galena improved its record to 6-3 after a big first half helped it defeat Orangeville. Sami Wasmund dropped in 11 field goals and three free throws to finish with 25 points for Galena. Orangeville’s top scorer was Alyssa Ostendorf with 23 points.
Aquin 67, Eastland 57
Sophomore guard Alyssa London scored 16 points including four 3-pointers to lead Aquin past Eastland. Junior forward Meredith Janssen was the top scorer for the Cougars, who attempted to storm back with a 25-point fourth quarter.
