When we first started hearing about the Wuhan Virus, which has transitioned to COVID-19, projected deaths were over 2.5 million. These projections were based on models which, since early March, have been continually adjusted downward. Now we believe the death rate from the virus will be somewhere under 100,000 per year.

These early projections caused us to literally shut down a country. Influenza, or the flu, kills approximately 60,000 to 70,000 per year.

Daily we are told of the COVID-19 deaths. More and more doctors and other medical professionals are questioning the cause of underlying conditions, i.e. heart disease, diabetes, obesity, to name a few.

Granted, when it first became a huge fear issue in early March, no one really knew what to do. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the recognized expert on the virus, had told us in late February to continue business as usual.

President Trump had been widely criticized for preventing all flights from China on Jan. 31, 10 days after the first death from the virus in this country. Now, though his critics will never agree, perhaps that one decision saved many lives.

Dr. Dan Erickson and Dr. Artin Massihi, partners in accelerated urgent care in Bakersfield California, published a video of the test results of 5,213 COVID-19 inflicted, indicating deaths from the virus were far less than other studies indicated. Highly publicized test results by Stanford and USC researchers were similarly criticized for sampling bias and poor reliability for the tests they used. The video was pulled from the internet on April 27.

Dr. Bill Bennett, not a medical doctor, published “An Advantaged Disease, Indeed.” He noted that your chance of recovery from coronavirus is about 98 percent if you get it. Some models show, according to Dr. Bennett, that approximately 50 percent of the population may have already had it and didn’t know it.

He further states that America loses approximately 54,000 per month to heart disease, 50,000 to cancer, 14,000 to asthma and emphysema. 7,000 to diabetes, 10,000 to Alzheimer’s, the list goes on. We lose about 157,000 per month to debilitating diseases. THESE NUMBERS ARE PER MONTH!

In New York alone, where arguably most of the data regarding COVID-19 comes from, is garnered from an age group over age 65. Almost all in that age group have underlying conditions.

Yes, Dr. Bennett makes a thoughtful argument. This is a very advantaged disease and has turned a country upside down. I’m certainly not advocating not to take it seriously. I firmly believe we need to ease back into a semblance of normalcy.

We have put millions out of work, nearly destroyed our economy, increased suicides by over three hundred percent, caused a significant increase in domestic violence and businesses closing.

I encourage Gov. JB Pritzker to recognize that Illinois is actually two states in one. We, in Northwest Illinois, are far different from the Chicago area.

Governor I implore you, consider opening for those of us in the more rural areas of Illinois. Illinoisans are smart, put your faith in us governor. We will make you proud – Enough, really is Enough!
