The inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for every citizen in America is, overwhelmingly, the most cherished rights guaranteed by the preamble to the constitution. These adults, students, and children who have been shot, killed or maimed had these most sacred rights ripped away from them under the most horrific of circumstances. The Second Amendment to the constitution cannot be used as justification for this domestic terrorism.
Mental illness, video games, prayer in the schools or movies cannot be used as causes. We would have to assume that Australia, United Kingdom or Canada do not have these problems.
As a retired schoolteacher, a veteran and a gun owner, I believe in gun ownership and the right to protect the sanctity of our homes. If anyone invades my home and threatens the lives of myself or my family, I will use lethal force. On the other hand, all of us as gun owners must recognize that serious restrictions on gun ownership will be enacted to protect the innocent.
Gun owners do not have an inalienable right to unfettered gun ownership or the right to carry anywhere they please.
Voters must come together and elect leaders that can sit down and come up with gun regulations that can pass the test of common sense gun laws and gun control. I am especially calling on Republican women to reach down into that very special place in their souls and join in on voting for political leaders from any party that recognizes that the crisis in this country.
This is an imperfect solution to this catastrophic, heart-wrenching problem
