ROCKFORD — The city’s Memorial Day Parade and other related events have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum Director Scott Lewandowski is asking the public to keep the spirit of Memorial Day alive by decorating a veteran’s grave to honor the sacrifices made by the country’s military veterans.

On Monday, the Rockford 4th of July Civic Committee canceled many Independence Day events, including the patriotic prayer breakfast, carnival, parade and live entertainment at Davis Park.

The annual Fourth of July fireworks show will go on this year, but will be shorter than the usual show.
