FREEPORT — Stephenson County has been awarded federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.
The Emergency Food & Shelter Program's Phase 37 Grant will provide $18,724 and the CARES Supplemental Grant will provide $26,695.
A local board composed of representatives from Stephenson County will be charged with the distribution of funds to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas in our communities. The board is currently seeking applications from qualified service
organizations serving Stephenson County.
Qualified service organizations include nonprofit, faith-based and governmental organizations that provide food services, including congregate meals, food purchases and home delivery meals; shelter services, including local shelter facilities, hotels/motels and rent and mortgage aid; supplies and equipment purchases, including cleaning supplies for shelters and feeding sites and small equipment purchases; utility services for clients, including gas, electric and water; and administrative allowance.
To be eligible for funding, an organization must submit an application to the local board, have a Data Universal Number System number, have a federal employer identification number, maintain a checking account in the organization’s name for deposits, pay vendors directly within 90 days for services provided and submit all required reports. Past Emergency Food and Shelter Program participation is not a requirement.

Grant request applications are due by 4 p.m. May 15 at the United Way office, 524 W Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032.
