BELVIDERE — The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the sudden death of one its own.

Deputy Scott Bowers, 37, died on Thursday after suffering an apparent heart attack while working at home, according to the department’s Facebook page.

Deputy Bowers was a 12-year veteran of the sheriff’s office. He spent most of his law enforcement career working as an undercover narcotics detective and as a member of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force.

“The members of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office offer our deepest condolences to the Bowers family,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “We ask that you keep the Bowers family and our law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Rest easy hero, your watch has ended. We’ll hold the line from here.”
