This is a goodbye and a thank you to a local professional who in our personal interactions with him has embodied the notions of honesty, trust, and integrity in business. Moving to Freeport 38 years ago, we lucked into a wholly satisfying, decades long, customer/service provider relationship when we first walked through the service department doors of FS Farmtown.
Mike Pehl has been the service manager there these last many years. It is he to whom we are saying goodbye. He is retiring in early May. What we know about cars can be written on the head of a pin. We have said as much to Mike many times (as if he needed to be told). Our, perhaps naive, honesty was always answered by Mike's sterling professionalism. We have always been thankful for that. Never have we pulled out of the Farmtown lot feeling anything but supremely confident that we had been treated fairly.
It is so disappointing that we're unable to thank Mike in person one last time. To tell him how grateful we are that we met him, how much we will miss his humor. But our daughter-in-law will be giving birth to triplets this summer, and we are particularly careful to limit our social contacts. We will likely always regret not shaking his hand and wishing him good luck as he begins his retirement on the fishing lakes of Kentucky and in the company of his family. But we will, with fondness, always remember Mike Pehl.
