Rock Valley College theater season to be presented in 2021

ROCKFORD — The Rock Valley College Starlight Theatre season has been postponed to 2021.

Shows from the 2020 schedule — "The Little Mermaid," "Disaster!," "Dream Girls," "Hello, Dolly!," and "How I Became a Pirate" — will be performed instead in 2021.

"While planning to move forward to provide a season of adventure for our community, we have run through multiple scenarios, from a late start to online streaming," Starlight Theatre Director Chris Brady said in a Tuesday night news release. "We’ve been preparing these scenarios in the hopes that the shelter-at-home ordinance from the governor and the state's health department would be lifted at the onset of May or even a touch later.

"Our community’s health is the priority, which not only includes our patrons, but our volunteers, actors, crews and employees. These factors have weighed exceptionally heavy on our souls."

Instead of a season of shows, Brady said, the Starlight Theatre team plans to offer other forms of entertainment this summer.

Brady said the community should hear more about "Starlight… Virtually" in the coming weeks.

Season ticket holders are being given the option of donating their tickets, transferring them to 2021 or requesting a refund.

Ticket holders should contact Brady at c.brady@rockvalleycollege.edu to make arrangements.
