ROCKFORD — The regional, community COVID-19 testing site is available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Auburn High School, 5110 Auburn St.
Patients will enter the testing site on Pierpont Avenue between Auburn and School streets, next to Kennedy Middle School, 520 N. Pierpont Ave. The site will be a four-lane, drive-thru testing center.
Patients will be required to remain in their vehicle for the test. Individuals desiring a test must be seated by an operating window. Appointments are not needed. Wait times may vary depending on the number of people in line. The actual test is fast and will be available as long as daily testing supply allotments last.
The test is a nasopharyngeal swab, which is designed to collect nasal secretions from the back of the nose and throat. The test will be administered by medical staff from Crusader Community Health. Samples will be sent to the Illinois Department of Public Health lab. Results will come from the patient’s primary care provider or the IDPH.
Individuals seeking testing at this site will be asked to complete a form that will include personal, demographic, health insurance and primary care provider information. Symptoms will also be documented.
Ideal candidates include, but are not limited to, anyone experiencing upper respiratory symptoms and suspecting it could be COVID-19; high-risk populations living with chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and/or related conditions including asthma; people living or working in congregate situations including nursing homes or retirement housing; and health care workers and first responders.
