ROCKFORD — A Rockford woman was arrested Saturday after police say she shot a man in the arm and then barricaded herself in a house on Auburn Street for several hours.

The standoff started around 3:30 p.m. when officers were called to respond to a domestic disturbance in the 2300 block of Auburn. A 57-year-old man was shot in the left arm and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said in a news release.

Police say Rachel Thompson, 38, then barricaded herself in the residence. She surrendered to police after several hours of negotiations.

Thompson was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated domestic battery-great bodily harm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

She is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
