ROCKFORD — The Rockford Area Arts Council is holding a Youth Short Film Showcase for elementary, junior high and high school students.

The council is holding the showcase in partnership with the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Transform Rockford, Alignment Rockford and Rockford Public Schools.

Film makers are encouraged to create a short video, not to exceed three minutes, focused on an area of study in school. Creators are encouraged to make videos that show unusual approaches to every-day school assignments. Examples may include acting out a piece of literature, dancing like Beyonce, baking or cooking with French subtitles or how to shoot a free throw, launch a football or serve a tennis ball.

Subjects and themes may include, but are not limited to, math, science, social studies, literature, visual art, foreign language, music, language arts, theater, history, dance, physical education or speech.

All approved videos will be uploaded to the RAAC’s YouTube page and separated into academic themes. Some videos may be shared on partnering agencies’ pages.

Submissions are required by May 15. The submissions must be saved as a link; actual files cannot be uploaded to the Google submission form. A parent must be present to complete the consent portion of the form.
