ROCKFORD — A man questioned and taken into custody after a double stabbing Wednesday has been formally charged.

Ocyrus Oats, 27, of Rockford was charged with two counts of aggravated battery in a public place of accommodation and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.

Two people were stabbed shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday at the East State Street Walmart.

Police say Oats was in the store and purchased a box cutter. He then ran out the door and stabbed an adult male employee in the chest and an adult female employee in the upper shoulder. Neither of the employees were seriously injured.

He was found in the parking lot and taken into custody.

Police said there was no previous interaction between Oats and the employees prior to the attack.

Oats was still in the Winnebago County Jail Thursday awaiting his bond hearing.
