FREEPORT — Highland Community College had recognized April as Community College Month.

Illinois is number one in the nation in bachelor’s degree completion rates among community college students who transfer at 53.8%. Earning an Associate of Applied Science or long-term certificate from an Illinois community college adds more than $570,000 in lifetime earnings. Nine out of 10 of the state’s community college graduates live, work, pay taxes and raise their families in Illinois.

Community colleges also contribute to Illinois’ economic development by providing workforce training, increasing credential attainment, and closing the skills gap. Nearly 74% of Illinois employers have hired a community college student.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Highland Community College also recognizes the importance of continuing to meet the needs of the students while practicing health and safety.
