ROCKFORD — Administrators at two nursing homes — Anam Care and Alden Alma Nelson Manor — are working closely with the Winnebago County Health Department after residents there tested positive for COVID-19.
Anam Care, 8104 Sayer Road, provides assisted living and memory care. Alden Alma Nelson Manor is a skilled nursing facility at 550 S. Mulford Road.
While public health officials do not typically identify such facilities, officials at Anam Care and Alden Alma Nelson reported cases quickly and chose to self-identify in the interest of public welfare and ongoing care for their residents and concern for their staffs, according to a health department news release.
Both facilities are working with the health department to prevent further exposure and transmission of the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
"While we expect to have cases in congregate settings during this pandemic, it is concerning to know that those in our community who are most vulnerable and at highest risk for poor outcomes have been exposed," the health department said in its news release.
Additional actions are being taken to monitor and protect the health and safety of residents and staff, following guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, according to the health department.
The facilities are still notifying all family members of their residents. The health department reminds family members who want to check on their loved ones of the following:
• Visitor restrictions are in place at these (and all long-term care) facilities.
• Check with each facility before taking advantage of other ways to visit with family (such as window visits) as these can be disruptive to the residents in their homes.
