BELVIDERE — The Belvidere Assembly Plant and other North American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles manufacturing facilities will restart May 4, the company said Monday.

The Belvidere plant, which assembles Jeep Cherokees and is one of the largest employers in the region, closed March 18 as a result of coronavirus concerns.

FCA said it is working with government officials and unions to start procedures to certify the daily wellness of the workforce. It also is redesigning work stations to maintain proper social distancing and expanding the cleaning protocols at all locations.
