ROCKFORD — Rock House Kids, a safe haven for inner-city kids ages 6-18, says young people are knocking on residents' doors asking for donations to the organization.

"We certainly would not encourage anyone to do this especially the children we serve," said Rock House Kids Executive Director Deanna "Dee" Lacny. "We are here to get kids off the streets not put them on the streets."

Residents are advised if anyone comes to their door soliciting for Rock House Kids to call the Rockford Police Department's nonemergency number, 815-966-2900.

Rock House Kids provides hot meals, take-home food bags, and daily essentials to more than 250 inner-city kids of Rockford on four evenings a week. No federal, state, or city funding is received but are wholly supported by donations from corporations, civic groups, churches, and individuals in the Rockford area.
