MACHESNEY PARK — Call center operator ServiCom has closed its office at 9942 N. Alpine Road in Machesney Park, leaving its employees out of work less than three weeks before Christmas.
ServiCom’s building was locked and its parking lot was empty Thursday afternoon. Phone calls to the company’s Machensey Park location were not answered.
The closing comes two months after ServiCom shuttered its locations at 175 Executive Parkway in Rockford and at 10100 Forest Hills Road in Machesney Park.
At the time, the company stated on its Facebook page that it was considering all options that will allow it to operate profitably.
Machesney Park officials were caught off guard by ServiCom’s latest closing.
“I had heard they had filed for bankruptcy protection but I didn’t hear the results of that so I don’t know if they’ve closed their North Alpine Road location,” Machesney Park Community Development Director James Richter said.
Village President Steve Johnson also said he hadn't received confirmation on the closure.
It’s unclear how many full-time and part-time employees are affected by the closure.
ServiCom is a subsidiary of New Jersey-based JNET Communications. Company officials were unavailable for comment Thursday.
