BELVIDERE — The Belvidere Assembly Plant and other Fiat Chrysler Automobiles manufacturing operations were set to reopen May 4, but the company is reevaluating amid the coronavirus pandemic and does not have a set start date for its North American operations, company spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in an email on Tuesday.

Production ceased March 18 at FCA facilities, including Belvidere, which assembles Jeep Cherokees and is one of the largest employers in the Rockford region.

The stay-at-home issued by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is in place through May.

Tinson said safeguards the company is putting in place for when operations resume include daily temperature monitoring, redesigning work stations to maintain proper social distancing, and expanding extensive cleaning protocols. Employees also must wear facial masks.
